How it’s built
Traditionally the center is red, for the hearth of the cabin. Strips are added around it in rounds, two light then two dark.
Because each block is split diagonally between light and dark, turning the blocks creates very different quilts: Barn Raising, Sunshine and Shadows, Straight Furrows…
In Quiltkit, the block sits on a 9 × 9 grid: one center and four rounds of four logs.
Sewing tips
- Start from the center and always add strips in the same direction.
- Press each seam away from the center before adding the next strip.
- Cut strips longer than needed and trim after sewing: the block stays square.
